A look back at an inspiring evening that focused on the innovative TS3 technology and the pioneering Zelgstrasse project in Uster. With exciting insights and specialist presentations, the event created a space for in-depth discussions and networking with experts from the industry.
The TS3 customer event at Swissbau was a complete success and offered an impressive insight into the future of timber construction. The evening began with captivating presentations from industry experts. Sven Bill from Timber Structures 3.0 AG explained the vision "Think in concrete - build with wood" and showed how TS3 technology is paving the way for ecologically sustainable timber construction.
Philipp Hirt from Rhomberg Bau AG presented the path from solid construction to environmentally friendly timber construction using the example of the Zelgstrasse project in Uster. Ciril Stadler from Timbatec Holzbau Ingenieure Schweiz AG shed light on the project from the perspective of a timber construction engineer, while Konrad Leuenberger from Renggli AG presented the implementation of timber construction with a high degree of prefabrication.
The panel discussion allowed participants to take part in an interactive Q&A session, moderated by Benjamin Bruni from Radio Basilisk. It was an opportunity to engage directly with those involved in the project and learn more about the challenges and innovations of the project.
We would like to thank all participants for making this evening a special event. A big thank you also goes to the speakers who shared their experiences and insights.
In Zelgstrasse in Uster, the client UBS Sima is building a pioneering residential quarter with a clear focus on environmentally conscious construction methods and future-oriented technologies. Originally planned as a conventional construction project with 164 apartments, it developed into a flagship project for sustainable construction thanks to a competition process.
The challenge was to find a timber construction system that structurally allowed a two-axis tensioned timber construction - a requirement that TS3 successfully met. In collaboration with timber construction partner Renggli, the vision of a CO₂-efficient and cost-effective construction method became a reality. The CO₂ savings were impressive, and the cost-benefit analysis showed that the additional expenditure was accompanied by considerable added value.
The switch from the originally planned concrete construction to a timber construction went smoothly, as the planning with the biaxial load-bearing TS3 cross-laminated timber panels is similar to reinforced concrete projects. The five buildings with a total of 164 apartments on an area of 16,000 m² not only rely on sustainable construction methods, but also integrate advanced technologies.
The complete implementation of the project in wood ensures that the building materials can be fully recycled and reused once the building is no longer in use. Zelgstrasse in Uster is thus a prime example of well thought-out planning and the use of innovative technologies in the service of a sustainable future.
