New TS3 research project launched



TS3 connects wood on the face side and thus enables point-supported large surfaces made of timber. The technology is the result of 10 years of research and development by Timbatec together with the Bern University of Applied Sciences and ETH Zurich. Since the beginning of 2021, a new Innosuisse research project has been running for the further development of the technology and its successful establishment on the market.

New research project

The Innosuisse research project Achieving market readiness of the biaxial load-bearing timber flat deck system was started on 01.01.2021. TS3 is researching and optimizing the TS3 system over the next three years together with Henkel & Cie AG and Schilliger Holz AG and the research partners ETH Zurich and Bern University of Applied Sciences. Innosuisse supports the research institutes with about 700'000 CHF. The implementation partners are once again making the same contribution.

Leading universities involved

Two work packages are being processed at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. On the one hand, under the title Pour to solid (PTS) to market, the construction site suitability of TS3 is being optimized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Steffen Franke. On the other hand, the industrialization of the technology is being further developed by Prof. Dr. Klaus Rehm. 

At the ETH, the Institute for Building Materials of Prof. Dr. Ingo Burgert is researching the interaction of the wood-adhesive system and at the Institute for Structural Analysis and Design of Prof. Dr. Andrea Frangi a biaxial load-bearing box-girder floor is being developed, which will be integrated into TS3 system.

Together, the work packages will lead to an increase in load-bearing capacity, a broadening of the scope of application and, finally, an increase in efficiency in the application of the TS3 connection. 

TS3 technology is already being used successfully in initial construction projects. We are convinced that, not least thanks to the new research project, the technology will become established and soon register a significant market share.
